AVIGUARD
Principle
Aviguard
is a unique freeze-dried product derived from healthy, pathogen-free
birds. It prevents colonisation of the gastro-intestinal tract
of poultry and gamebirds by pathogenic (harmful) bacteria.
The benign bacteria in Aviguard protect birds by occupying
all of the ecological niches in the guts of the birds and
so denying pathogenic bacteria space to establish themselves.
This 'competitive exclusion' of the pathogenic bacteria by
the Aviguard bacteria is what makes the product so effective.
Colonisation by harmful transient bacteria such as salmonella,
E. coli and clostridia can occur in:
- Day-old chicks because they have very little natural gut
flora due to modern breeding conditions, clean hatchery
environment as well as separation of the chicks from their
parents.
- Poultry after treatment with antibiotics, creating an
imbalance in the normal gut flora
- Birds that are stressed due to relocation, laying or moulting.
Aviguard
rapidly colonises/re-colonises the gut with the complete normal
avian microflora and prevents colonisation by these pathogenic
bacteria.
Properties
- White free flowing powder that is easily dispersible in
water.
- Storage temperature 2°C to 8°C.
- Contains over 200 normal avian gut flora micro-organisms.
- Shelf life from manufacture is 18 months.
- The product is packaged in foil laminate sachets sufficient for
2000, 5000 or 10,000 chicks.
- Product can be applied by spray treatment or drinking
water application.
Benefits
- Establishment of normal avian gut flora in day-old chicks,
turkey poults and gamebirds.
- Re-establishment of normal avian gut flora in poultry
following antibiotic treatment or at time of stress (relocation,
peak of lay or moulting).
- Prevention of colonisation by Salmonella, Clostridia and
E. coli.
- Reduction of necrotic enteritis.
